Meeting someone new

Video chat with strangers, without giving up control.

Talking to someone you have never met can be the most interesting part of your day — as long as you decide what you share and when a conversation ends. This page explains what a Shedo Chat call looks like and the controls available throughout.

01

What a first call looks like

You are connected to one person. Both cameras appear side by side on a computer, or stacked on a phone. Most conversations start with where you are and what you were doing — and last anywhere from a few seconds to an hour.

02

Decide what you share

There is no profile to fill in before your first call. You choose whether to give a name, a country, or nothing at all. Treat your full name, address, workplace, school, financial details and login codes as things you never share on a call with someone new.

  • Keep identifying documents out of frame
  • Be cautious with anyone asking for money or account access
  • Move to Shedo IDs rather than personal contact details
03

Controls during the call

Mute your microphone, blur your camera, apply a face effect, or skip to the next person. None of these end the connection unless you choose the stop control, so you can adjust as the conversation goes.

04

Reporting and blocking

Report sends the session to moderators for review. Block prevents that person from being matched with you again and asks you to confirm first, so a mis-tap never removes someone you wanted to keep talking to.

05

Our rules apply to everyone

Shedo Chat is adults-only. Nudity, sexual content, harassment, hate speech, scams and spam are not allowed, and accounts that break those rules lose access.

06

If something goes wrong

Leave the call first, then report. You do not need to stay in a conversation to document it — reports include the session details moderators need.

Common questions

Are calls recorded?
Calls are peer-to-peer and are not stored as recordings by Shedo Chat. Automated safety checks and reports are used to enforce the community rules.
Can someone find me from a call?
You are not required to give your name or location. Your contact details are never shown automatically; sharing anything personal is always your decision.
What is the minimum age?
Shedo Chat is for adults only. Accounts believed to belong to minors are removed.
