Law Enforcement Requests

This page explains how Shedo Chat responds to requests from law enforcement and other government authorities. It is general guidance and is not legal advice.

How to contact us

Send all law enforcement requests by email to shedochat@gmail.com with "Law Enforcement Request" in the subject line. Requests should be sent on official letterhead from an official government email address and include the requesting agency, the name and contact details of the requesting officer, the legal authority relied on, and a specific description of the information sought.

Please identify accounts as precisely as you can — for example the Shedo ID, username, or the email address registered to the account — together with the relevant date and time range in UTC. Broad or unspecific requests may be declined or returned for narrowing.

Valid legal process

We disclose account information only where we are legally required to do so and where the request is valid under applicable law. That normally means a subpoena, court order, search warrant, or an equivalent instrument recognised in the requesting jurisdiction, served through an appropriate channel including mutual legal assistance where relevant. We review each request for legal sufficiency and may object to, narrow, or decline requests that are overbroad, vague or legally deficient.

Emergency requests

If there is an emergency involving a risk of death or serious physical harm, mark the email subject "Emergency Disclosure Request" and describe the nature of the emergency, the person at risk, and why the information requested is needed to prevent harm. We review emergency requests as a priority and may disclose information where we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to prevent imminent death or serious injury.

Preservation requests

We will consider requests to preserve existing account records pending valid legal process. A preservation request does not require us to disclose anything and does not create records that do not already exist.

What we can and cannot provide

We can only provide information we actually hold at the time of the request. Shedo Chat does not record or store video or audio from one-on-one video calls or Rooms; those streams are peer-to-peer and are not retained. Private messages are end-to-end encrypted and are subject to automatic retention limits, so we cannot provide the content of messages we do not hold. We do not hold payment card details: web payments are processed by Stripe as merchant of record, and Android in-app purchases are processed by Google Play.

What we may hold includes basic account registration data, the Shedo ID and username, subscription status, and safety records such as reports and bans. What exists varies by account. See our privacy policy for how we handle personal data generally.

User notice

Our policy is to notify users about requests for their information so that they may seek to protect their rights, unless we are legally prohibited from doing so, or where we believe notice would create a risk of harm, or the request relates to an emergency.

Public emergencies

If you are a user and someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first, then report the account inside the app and email us using our contact page.
