Interest-based video chat: fewer awkward openings.
Random matching is fun, but conversations go further when both people already care about the same thing. Interests are Shedo Chat's lightest-touch way of nudging the queue in that direction.
How interests work
You pick topics before you start. When the queue looks for a partner it prefers people who share one of your interests, and falls back to a general match if nobody suitable is waiting — so you are never stuck waiting.
Choosing good interests
Specific beats broad. 'Guitar' or 'Formula 1' gives a conversation somewhere to go; 'music' or 'sport' is shared by almost everyone. Three to five well-chosen topics usually work best.
Changing them any time
Interests can be edited from the home screen and apply to your very next match. Clear them entirely if you'd rather meet anyone at all.
Premium matching preferences
Premium adds preferences on top of interests, such as country and other matching options, for people who want more say in who they meet. Interests themselves stay available to everyone.
Interests in Rooms
Rooms are organised around a topic, so browsing Rooms is another way to find conversations about something specific — with a host guiding the discussion.
What interests are not
Interests are matching hints, not a public profile. They are not displayed as a permanent page about you and they do not follow you between sessions unless you set them again.
Common questions
- Do interests slow down matching?
- Only slightly at quiet times. If no one shares your interests, matching continues normally rather than leaving you waiting.
- Are interests free?
- Yes. Adding interests is free for everyone.
- Can I match on language?
- Add the language as one of your interests — many people do exactly that to find conversation practice.
